The second Liverpool Music Awards ceremony, sponsored by Liverpool City Council took place on Sunday 25 August at St George’s Hall, as part of the new Liverpool International Music Festival. The red carpet event honours the heroes of the Liverpool music scene, from the musicians to those behind the scenes.
This year's
all star line up included Miles Kane, Heidi Range, China
Crisis, Lee Butler and Paul Rutherford. Hosted by Liverpool born DJ Janice
Long, it proved to be a star studded event, with presenters including
chart-topping stars Heidi Range from the Sugababes and Atomic Kitten’s Liz McClarnon, with guests including Miles Kane, The Farm and cast members of Hollyoaks.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “What a fantastic celebration of Liverpool’s musical talent.
“It was an evening to remember with stand-out performances from local artists right through to the touching tribute to Michael Molloy which recognised a young man who, in his short life, showed a real passion for music.

director Ellie Phillips said: "I'm delighted with how well it has
gone, all of the performances were spectacular, and the turn out to
support the nominees and the awards in general was brilliant.
“St
George's Hall was the perfect setting, and the atmosphere was so upbeat,
everyone seemed to have a great time.
Award
Judges Yaw Owusu, Spike Beecham, Roger
Hill, Steve Levine, Billy Butler, Lee Butler, Jennifer John, Janice Long, Jade
Wright, Dave Monks, Mark Featherstone-Witty and Michael Jones selected the
deserved winners who each take home one of our evolved hand made trophies.
Our esteemed designer Tom Sutton handcrafted the laser cut sheet metal into cylindrical scrolls and manipulated them to pinch more in the middle to give the look and feel of it having been held in the middle by the ribbon. This ribbon now varies in thickness, becoming wider as it descends in an elegant single twist to meet the lathe turned wooden bases, hand finished by our designer Andrew Luft.
The ribbon evolution was key to making the award more statuesque and sits nicely with the arrow cut end at the scroll centre, a mirror image of the “M” in the #LIMF (Liverpool International Music Festival) logos we have seen across the city this weekend.
Rather than the awards having the
illusion of “dance”, this year there is a greater emphasis throughout the structure
on the idea of floating and gliding, serving as a visual cue for the ceremonial
importance of this event both locally and nationally. Rivets and screws this
year, integral to the honesty of the first set have now been removed, freeing
visual clutter and drawing the eye to the central wax seal which adds a splash
of colour and highlights elements of the Music Awards logo.

The form and colour of the scrolls and texture and finish of the bases have been maintained to retain its iconic identity and sense of warmth. We feel the 2013 release is far superior to that of 2012 and we are excited to be thinking already about how it could be further developed for next year!
